Led by the TMI Episcopal chapter of Artful Healing, under the leadership of Valeria Ayarzagoitia, TMI Co-Leader, and Celeste Palacio, President and Founder of Artful Healing, our recent music session at Sodalis Senior Living at Stone Oak was a heartwarming success. Twelve of our Artful Healing members came together to lead an energetic and joyful experience for over 20 residents.

We played classic songs from the residents’ era—familiar tunes that sparked memories, smiles, and spontaneous singing. With drums, maracas, tambourines, bells, and other fun instruments in hand, both our volunteers and the residents played along to the rhythms, creating a truly interactive and uplifting environment.

Before we arrived, staff shared that many residents had been having a difficult day—some were withdrawn, uncommunicative, or even aggressive. But as the music began, the entire room transformed. Laughter, connection, and joy filled the space, and every resident participated with enthusiasm.

By the end of the session, the energy was infectious, and residents were asking us to return soon. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful music and human connection can be—and why we do what we do.
